Excellent dive centre, accommodating owners who know all there is to know about Nuweiba and the Red Sea, very friendly and first class staff, beautiful house reef (all dive centres offer interesting trips, very few have a great diving place in front of their facilities) what more could a diver want? Nuweiba is rather remote so you will see fish rather than other divers.

Hello everybody,

wo just spent a week in Nuweiba at the Diving College. It was a very relaxing and nice week of diving and a lot of fun. Petra and Mike are really lovely and helpful.
Every morning we went out by jeep to make a dive. The dive sites varied a lot and we enjoyed every single one. Thanks Walid for the perfect guidance! In the afternoon we did several dives at the house reef. Here it's good to have an magnifier to spot all the little things hanging around at this place. Yes, we spotted an seahorse! ;)
Between the dives we checked out some available literature in die "Bar" to define all the fishes we saw. During this Mustafa served us great snacks and drinks. Thanks for that! It was delicious. All this is perfectly organized by Petra and Mike who are doing their best to let you have a good time. You should also feel free to ask them for some hints where you can go out in Nuweiba. I would highly recommend "The Little Prince"!
Overall we had a very nice week. Thanks to all the staff. We really enjoyed it!

I hope we see us again! Soon!

Regards,
Max

Truly awesome and relaxing scuba diving at Scuba College Nuweiba

The fact that I´ve visited the Scuba College Diving Camp Nuweiba five times so far should tell you: It´s not only good, it´s very close to perfect!!

It does start with the booking: just contact them in any way you like (email, phone, Skype, Facebook...) and you´ll get a quote including scuba-diving, airport transfer and accommodation within 24 hours. Just book your flight and you´re all set up for an amazing holiday.

Before I go any further, one word about travel safety to Egypt: The political turmoil /riots are centered around Cairo and a few other major cities in the North, the South of the Sinai and all the other tourist centres along the Red Sea coast are safe!!
I often left the resort on my own (as a woman) and always felt safe, even in the darkness.
It won´t help the people if we cause them financial problems by staying away from Egypt on top of their political trouble!!

And now, first things first: The Scuba Diving!

After a thorough check-in (bring your log book, divers certificate and, if in doubt about any medical questions, a medical certificate) you´ll get two welcome dives at their two house reefs to show you where to go.
On the first welcome dive you´ll do three exercises to be sure that you are safe without a divemaster/instructor being around. Don´t worry, if you´re a certified diver it´ll only take 5 minutes max.. After that, you´re free to explore the two house reefs on your own – as often as you like during daylight hours.
Beginning with day two of your dive package a diveguide will take you to an amazing divesite in the morning by Jeep, the lunch- and afternoon hours are yours to dive the house reefs to your liking.

The dive sites: I love the house reefs. Right in font of the dive centre you´ll find a shallow area (depth of a few centimetres to max. 12m) covered with sea grass – open your eyes to find all the critters hiding here, including seahorses, seamoths, shrimp- and ghost-pipefish!. A few artificial structures attract some bigger stuff: anemone- and bannerfish, small moray eels, scorpion- and pufferfish, plenty of fairy basslets and an amazing amount of lionfish – just to name a few.
The northern house reef is the deeper (down to 35m), the southern the more shallow one, reaching depths of 15-20m. Both are great spots for macro-photographers – my personal highlights being all the different kind of nudibranches and frogfishes. On top of all the usual stuff (parrotfish, damsels, groupers, snapper, box- and trunkfish etc.) you may also spot turtles, rays, squids and some big napoleon wrasse. Absolute highlight, though I´ve not yet seen it myself, is a mimikry octopus!!! According to books it´s not supposed to live here, but there are several pictures and videos to proof it!
Of the roughly 15 dive spots for the morning trip, all reached within 10-30 minutes, each has its own appeal. Very generally the ones to the north are more about coral and landscape, the ones to the south about fish. One thing is for sure though: I was never disappointed after a dive.
Other great options are a day- or even two day-dive-trip into the National Park between Dahab and Nuweiba (awesome!!!) and a day trip to Dahab to dive The Canyon, The Bells and The Blue Hole. (Minimum numbers apply).

The Dive Centre

Owned and well-managed by Petra and Mike, it´s a diver´s delight. Three freshwater pools to rinse your equipment, ample storage space, a cool classroom with a small library and the diver´s bar, which serves drinks and snacks as well as dinner (on a few hours notice) make it a great place to spend time between and after dives.
There´s excellent and well maintained rental equipment, a wide range of courses is available and technical diving is possible as well.

Accommodation

You´ve got two choices here: The Camp and the Helnan Hotel.
I myself prefer the Camp: It´s right in front of the dive centre and offers clean huts with tiled floors, a double bed, a small cupboard, a fan, sockets (power is available 24h) and mosquito netting. There are two male and female ablution blocks, offering hot showers and toilets. They are generally clean, but if you need absolute privacy they won´t be yours. Booking accommodation in the camp includes breakfast in the divers bar.
Helnan Hotel: Just a a few metres walk from the dive centre it´s the place for those wishing for a bit more comfort. Apparently they renovated most of their rooms lately and made up the gardens, so some references you might find on other websites might be out of date. There are two different categories of rooms, both offering AC and your own bath. Book breakfast only, so you can try the food in the diver´s bar and some restaurants in the small town of Nuweiba (don´t miss „The Little Prince“).
