Santa Catalina is one of eight of Southern California's rocky channel islands, located in the North Pacific about 22 miles (35 km) southwest of San Pedro on the mainland. It is only 21 miles long and 8 miles wide and has a permanent population of about 3,000 and is the only island of the chain to have any permanent settlements.

With a ban of motorized vehicles in place, enjoying the outdoors never felt so good. This rocky island just off the coast of California is located 22 miles (35 km) Southwest of the main land, San Pedro and is the home to less than 4,000 people.
Keeping Catalina fresh and interesting are exciting annual events, like the the Jazztrax Showcase of the Absolute Newest and the killer waves found on the backside of Catalina in Shark Harbor and Ben Weston Beach.
While eager voyagers scuba the ocean deep or snorkel near the shallows, Glass bottom Boats are touring the reefs and shipwrecks. This naturally beautiful experience will have travelers feeling fully restored and more in tune with nature than ever before.
Explore Two Harbors on the northwestern side of the island; also known for its kelp beds, cave systems, and wrecks. Dive at Casino Point Marin Park, the only site within the town of Avalon where diving is permitted. Established in 1965 as a reserve, the park has fantastic marine life, wrecks, and artificial reefs.
Protect the environment: Each February, the town sponsors up to 500 divers in the Annual Avalon Harbor Underwater Clean-Up.
