Description

The city of Cancun attracts more tourists than any other city in Mexico; about 3 million people take Cancun vacations annually. Cancun is famous for the incredible beaches, stunning views, access to ancient civilizations and plenty of exciting activity.

Prior to this mid 1970's development, Cancun was a lone area near a wild jungle on the Yucatan Peninsula, and ancient times saw a Cancun that was heavily inhabited by Mayans and Mayan cities. Visiting Mayan ruins is a popular attraction for tourists taking Cancun vacations.
The ancient ruins have remained virtually untouched for thousands of years and many have even been restored. For anyone who has never traveled to Mexico or viewed an ancient Mayan city, Cancun vacations make an ideal first experience.
The city has more than one exceptional golf courses, as well as an entire network of trails for horse back riding, either through the jungle or along the beach. The Yucatan Peninsula is also an incredible geological wonder. As one of the flattest places on earth, the environment is quite unique and has an intricate jungle ecosystem. Cancun even has its own bullfighting arena, which is smaller then the more famous arenas in Mexico City but still puts on a great show. Shopping, dining and nightlife are all readily available in Cancun. No matter how you choose to take advantage of the sunshine and beauty of Cancun, your Mexico travel will be filled with activity and incredible weather.

Diving in Cancun is an unequalled experience due to the fact that the surrounding area features shallow waters, great visibility and a marvelous coral reef. Snorkeling in Cancun is also a very popular and fun activity. Some of the best reefs to dive in Cancun are Banderas, Chitales and El Bajito, located in northern Punta Cancun.
For the more experienced diver we recommend San Toribio, San Miguel and Aristos on the eastern side of Cancun, or La Boya de los Locos close to Punta Nizuc. All the locations have an abundance of life and color and make for really exciting dives.
However be careful with what you might see now as since 2007's hurricane all diving sites got severe damages. So better check before or wait a bit more to avoid any disappointment.
