Description
Superb diving all year round, with an abundance of sea life. Oman diving is comparable to the Red Sea but with out the crowds. The Daymaniyat Islands are a national park and the authorities are keen on protection of there natural beauty and resources. Diving is relatively easy with light surface conditions, zero to mild currents and generally good to excellent visibility. Sea life from Dolphins, whales including 3 different types of Killer Whale to every type of ray there is. The macro lovers will not be disappointed either with numerous nudibranches, unique anemone fish and shrimps. Ultimately though it is the migrating Whale Shark that is top of all our lists and they can be seen here in the summer months.
DIVING IN OMAN With 2,092 km of coastline and clean, unpolluted waters, Oman is one of the best kept secrets in the diving world. Diving in Oman provides adventure and enjoyment with dramatic wall drop-offs and scenic coral lined fjords, ranging in depth from 6-40 m. Oman enjoys good sea conditions with an average visibility of 20-30 m. Diving is relatively easy. During winter months, the sea temperature drops to 20-25 C° and a 5 mm wetsuit may be necessary. In summer, as the sea temperature rises, a 3 mm wetsuit will suffice. Night dives are popular and divers are often astonished by the amount of phosphorescence found in Oman’s night-time waters. There are several superb dive sites around the Capital Area, including Fahal Island, the Daymaniyat Islands and Bandar Khuran coast line including the 8 year old sunken Naval Vessel SS Al Munnassir (84m 3000 tonnes). Whatever the choice of site, underwater life is abundant; a variety of intact hard and soft corals and a spectacular range of fish can be seen. The trip too many sites is often rewarded by the sight of dolphins.

I write this review in response to an earlier review posted about diving in Oman.
First re Omanta Scuba Diving Academy. In the earlier review it stated that our company did not have licenses at the time the author visited the area. This was correct and as such we were not advertising our brand new company until these were in place. Our company is now registered and running with brand new boat and equipment.
The author states that when they travelled to the area operators in the area were not running trips. This was due to a unusual 2 week period of high winds and rough sea state. The dive operators under local coast guard warnings did the right thing by not putting their guests at unnecessary risk by attempting to operate under these abnormal conditions.
Unfortunately one operator did run out on one day where conditions changed suddenly and they were forced to camp on the Islands overnight. I will make no further comment on this incident because I was not there and will not contribute to hearsay.
Diving in Oman in general is extremely good. Visibility is normally around 15m during the winter months with best clarity of 30m + in the summer months. Water temperatures range from 22 degrees in the winter to 30 degrees C in the summer.
Marine life is abundant, just this week I have personally seen large schools of dolphins, melon headed whales, 2m rays plus all the standard coral reef fish that we expect to see on a daily basis.
Whilst we hope that the earlier review will not put people off from visiting Oman and in particular experience the diving here it is unfortunate that at the time of the last author's visit conditions were not favorable. I hope he / she visits again and has the opportunity to experience the diving themselves.
