The small island, only seven kilometers long and one wide at its narrowest point, is located just off the northern tip of Panay, the main island of the Visayan. The areas north and south of the island are characterized by picturesque hills, with elevations of 100 meters above sea level, overlooking the sea with weather worn cliffs. The Island has numerous scattered villages interconnected by a maze of intriguing jungle pathways. Boracay boasts one of the world's finest beaches, White Beach, a stretch of 3.5 kilometers long sun-drenched sand, washed by perpetually turquoise water of white foam.
The white beaches of Boracay is a paradise for those who love the sea and spends his vacation lazing under the tropical sun. White Beach runs almost the entire length of the western side of the island. During the summer season (from December to July) White Beach is the leeward shore and calm turquoise waters, ideal for relief from the torrid heat of summer. During this period the opposite, eastern, is the windward shore, with raging winds and choppy and almost perennial ideal for the experienced wind surfer. The eastern shore also contains numerous sheltered and picturesque bays, rewarding the ardent walker with spectacular views.
The main beaches for water sports centers, which hire the most modern equipment and offer expert instruction at reasonable prices, including scuba diving, sailing, local boats and wind surfing. Boracay is becoming the most popular resort of Asia for diving schools, with good shallow coral dives and drop-offs to depths of twenty meters within easy reach, while the more experienced and adventurous can dive into groped Cave at Black Rock or Maniguin Island, which is popular among shark enthusiasts at a distance of one and a half with a craft room. To record the captivating underwater scenery, there are underwater cameras and camcorders.
For those who like to do something else on the mainland, the center of the island calls for hiking or mountain biking along the many trails through the rolling hills, while offering occasional glimpses of far-off sandy coves, fringed by palm trees.
