Une opinion réaliste des dangers de la plongée

Scuba diving is quite a safe sport to partake in providing the standard set of rules and regulations are adhered to. It is only in circumstances where these rules are violated do we see the dangers arise.

We can begin by examining what the most common mistakes are that people make that puts them in a situation of danger, in doing so we can help to put things into perspective regarding the dangers that one faces when scuba diving and thus change people's perception.

Failure To Obtain Standard Certification.

Genrally speaking it is not possible to rent out or buy scuba diving gear without giving evidence of some sort of diver certification status. Whether it be a beginner, intermediate or advanced status. What does tend to happen though is that someone will rent or buy equipment and give it to an uncertified "diver".

This kind of activity has seen an increase due to internet access to auction websites. This is a sad reflection of reality because with scuba diving we need a strong, regulatory framework in order to keep the activity safe from accidents and bad publicity that may arise due to this irresponsible behaviour.

Scuba Diving And Limited Skill Sets.

Some specific diving situations require specialist skill sets such as wreck penetration, cavern diving, shark diving and ice diving. These having dangers associated with them that standard diving does not and therefore tailored training is a MUST.

Those who attempt these types of dives without proper training have suffered the ultimate penalty for their inexperience. This is a shame as $300 and a weekend of training would have saved their lives.

The Danger of Scuba Diving And Alcohol.

While most people who partake in the sport of scuba diving do so in a safe and responsible manner, there are those who take irresponsibility to new heights. In particular, there will be those who will go scuba diving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

It goes without saying that this is as dangerous as it gets and has, in the past, led to some deaths. It is paramount that no diver enters the open water whilst under the influence of either drug.

Inappropriate Levels Of Conditioning And Diving.

If you are mobidly obese and you smoke then you fall into a high risk category as far as undertaking scuba diving is concerned. You have an increased chance of suffering a cardiac arrest whilst diving.

All the areas we have discussed increase the danger however they can be addressed. It's all down to the individual and how responsible they are in letting common sense prevail.

Scuba diving is quite a safe sport to partake in providing the standard set of rules and regulations are adhered to. It is only in circumstances where these rules are violated do we see the dangers arise.
