DescriptionThe dive sites are located around the Islets Pigeon in the Cousteau Reserve and along the leeward coast. It was here that Jacques Cousteau shot part of the movie “Le Monde du Silence” in 1956, and these sites are considered the best of Guadeloupe.
Five dive centers located on the Malendure beach bring you on these sites. The Ilets Pigeon: The “Cousteau reserve”. In January 2004, during the launch of the 400 hectares natural reserve, the mayor of Bouillante decided to make a tribute to Jacques Cousteau who declared in 1960 that the site of the Ilets Pigeon was one of the most beautiful dive sites in the Caribbean and it would be appropriate to preserve it. During the launch the bust of the commander was immersed at 12 meters deep at the Ilets Pigeon. It was during a great ceremony in the presence of some of the former member of the Calypso team - Albert Falco, former captain of the Calypso - Dr. Laval, doctor on board the Calypso - Michel Metery - and of course Jean Michel Cousteau. For twenty years, the National Park of Guadeloupe has established fixed moorings. Because it is now forbidden to anchor, corals and other sponges are very well preserved. Four areas around the islets Pigeon are allowed for berthing : - Les sources chaudes (Hot Springs), - L’aquarium (The Aquarium), - Le jardin de corail (Coral Garden), - La piscine (The pool).
