Description

The Gulf of St. Raphael is the birthplace of diving in France. This region has seen the birth and development of famous divers passion for many from military schools, including but not limited to the commanders Cousteau and Taillez. You can find, while walking on the small marina of Santa Lucia, numerous accounts of this history. Moreover the city of St. Raphael has chosen, as a tribute to these pioneers, installed in the heart of the old city, a museum dedicated to diving. It deserves to make a “deco stop” by visiting it. Inside, Anne Joncheray will tell you the history of French diving, born in the famous "Club des Sous l’Eau" and you will discover her passion for the underwater archeology.
This superb diving spot starts from the small seaside resort of Sainte-Maxime, to the point of Agay village famous for its festival of mimosa. The city of St. Raphael has developed around the Gulf an innovative concept called "St. Raphael: destination for diving" whose goal is to enhance hospitality to divers by proposing them a choice of clubs and accommodation. All the diving partners direct you to this organization which can take care of you and organize your entire stay (diving and recreational activities). Accessible by speed train called TGV (4H30 from Paris Gare de Lyon), by highway or by air (30 minutes from Nice Côte d'Azur airport), you have plenty of solutions to join us on the “Cote d'Azur”.
More than 40 different dive sites are awaiting your visit. Among the most famous ones, we have:

- the “Lion de Mer” and his arch covered with encrusting anemones and its beautiful coral vault,
- the Dramont spot with splendid school of groupers visited by many clubs
- Beautiful rusted wrecks nesting big moray and conger eels: “Les péniches d’ Anthéor”, “Le BYMS” sister ship of the famous Calypso, “La torpille” and many other remains of marine disasters which are now fishes territories ...
Inside the Gulf of St. Raphael, these sites are all within 30 minutes boating on a generally calm and clear sea. The water temperature ranges from 14 ° in winter to 27 in summer, gradually as the sun returns ... In winter a semi-dry or even dry suit is advised, as a 6 mm wet suit will be perfect in summer.
Because security is a must in this activity, two hospitals can accommodate diving accidents, Nice and Toulon. The CROSSMED ensuring a continuous standby 24/7 on the sector has the mission to ensure a diver to be in a deco chamber within 45 min after the alert is given (Helico evac). All the dive boats are required to be equipped with first aid kits, pure oxygen tanks and wireless communication like VHF or mobile phone.
Security is only there to serve your pleasure. Enjoy with your eyes, together with your soul the relax and good mood typical of the peoples from the South.
The sun of the Côte d'Azur, just few hours from Paris is waiting for you ... Let the cicadas songs lull your ear... Come and enjoy our bubbles ...
