The Cayman Islands are a group of three islands: Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. They are located in the north of the Caribbean Sea on the Cayman Ridge, a massive underwater mountain range that drops off to kilometres deep close to the shore and are surrounded by fringing coral reefs. The reefs form pinnacles, archways and walls, and they are pitted with gullies and caverns.
The Caymans offer some good restaurants and beaches as well as excellent diving. The scenery is not among the best of the Caribbean and resorts tend to be very Americanised, but the quality of the diving makes up for this which is some of the best in the world. All diving is highly organised due to being a major part of the Cayman tourist industry and trimix diving is available. Aside from diving you may wish to try sailing, parasailing, windsurfing or water skiing. Away from the sea there are numerous restaurants and some golf courses.

Cayman is known for its fabulous diving with over 200 dive sites, incredible visibility and ideal water temperatures averaging from 77 to 83 degrees. Typically most dive operators offer 2-tank dives in the morning consisting of a guided 100ft wall dive followed by a shallow 50ft buddy dive. The Cayman walls are spectacularly beautiful with brightly coloured corals and sponges, aquatic life including eagle rays, turtles, tarpon, nurse sharks and a large assortment of tropical fish.
The Cayman Islands, part of an underwater mountain range running between Cuba and Belize, lie 480 miles south of Miami, just 150 miles south of Cuba and 189 miles north-west of Jamaica. With average year-round temperature range of about 75° F in winter to about 85°F in the summer, the Caymans boasts some of the finest tropical weather in the world.
All three islands - Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac & Little Cayman - are coral outcrops surrounded by healthy coral reefs and dramatic walls close to shore, creating ideal conditions for the best diving and snorkeling found in the Caribbean. Divers can explore a variety of shipwrecks, coral reefs, and walls. One popular shipwreck dive is the Balboa, a Norwegian freighter that sank off the shore near George Town during a 1932 hurricane. Stingray City is an easy 12-foot dive site perfect for snorkeling as well as diving. Here you can swim in crystal clear waters surrounded by dozens of friendly stingrays.
Great Wall, off the north side of Grand Cayman, is a spectacular dive site--with coral formations and an abundance of exotic marine life.
Qualified buddy teams diving on wall and deep dives can now do so without a guide. There are more than 40 dive operations in the Caymans offering everything from equipment to diving instruction to underwater photography.
