Description for the dive shop TOPDIVE TahitiTOPDIVE Tahiti is part of a network of 13 divecenters on 7 islands in French Polynesia.
The TOPDIVE Tahiti divecenter is located in the heart of the InterContinental Hotel in Tahiti. As one of the foremost divecenters on the island, the center is strategically located on the west coast of Tahiti to be in close proximity to most of the divesites. Tahiti is the take-off point for starting a dive tour of French Polynesia. It is also perfect for introductory, refresher and beginner dives before discovering the other famous diving islands. Tahiti is well known for wreck and reef diving. Considered as artificial reefs, the wrecks host a myriad of undersea inhabitants like anemones, surgeonfish, moorish idols, blue damsels, lionfish, butterflyfish and a variety of wrasses. One can see an occassional moray eel jotting its head out to feed in the current and check out the divers. Unlike, the other islands that feature larger and more impressive pelagic specimens such as mantas, turtles, barracudas and huge schools of tuna and bonito, one can observe smaller marine specimens but more dramatic underwater topography. Sharks are one of the main attractions in Tahiti and most of the Polynesian islands. Considered as one of the best shark dive destinations in the Pacific, they are present in almost all of the divesites, notably the White Valley and the Arue Faults. At least 3 species of sharks are quite commonly seen on the reef: the black-tip, the white-tip reef shark, and Grey reef shark. Other notable dive sites are the wreck dives of the Cargo ship and the Catalina seaplane, the St Etienne drop-off, the Arue Faults & Grotto located on the east coast of the island, the Spring and the Papa Whisky.
