Description for the dive shop Coastal Scuba- USA

Coastal Scuba is a full-service PADI dive facility, located right in the heart of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, offering scuba diving and fishing!

The Grand Strand is loaded with some of the best dive sites on the East Coast!! We have a high concentration of beautiful natural shipwreck sites that range in age from the mid 1800`s to the 1960`s, with many from the Civil War and WWII era. We also have several reefs that contain intact ships! While you`re here, be sure to check out Barracuda Alley,- a project spear-headed by Coastal Scuba and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources!

Our dive sites are usually teaming with marine life, including angel fish, grouper, amberjack, butterfly fish, great Atlantic barracuda, sea turtles, and even the occasional lobster! In recent years even lionfish have been discovered living on our wrecks! On many of the sites you may find ``sunken treasures`` of brass artifacts that went down with the ship. These may include Civil War belt buckles, trigger guards, gun butt plates, bottles, china, small personal items, and port holes,- just to name a few.

Coastal Scuba brings together years of experience from its captains, instructors and dive masters. Our goal is to make your diving experience the best you have had in the Carolinas, with something to offer every diver from the newly certified, to the seasoned veteran. Thank you for making us your first choice in South Carolina scuba diving charters and lessons! We are proud to present the Safari IV! This 45 foot customized dive boat is sleek enough to get you to dive sites quickly, sturdy enough to offer you stability against the occasionally unpredictable Atlantic, and yet roomy and spacious on board, complete with a full size head (bathroom), 2 ice coolers for your snacks, and a professional crew. She carries all Coast Guard required equipment including first aid kit and oxygen. We are also proud to announce the addition of the Little River Fishing Fleet to our company!: The Pride of the Carolinas and the Sundancer are outfitted for both fishing and scuba diving, running trips year round based on customer demand. Remember, demand for diving is high in the summer, so please book early. All weekends are especially busy.

But best of all,... if mother nature prohibits us from diving there are numerous topside activities for you to enjoy. These include over 100 fantastic golf courses, thousands of restaurants and bars, theaters, and much, much more. We pride ourselves in our professional, friendly service. Our dive sites offer many exciting opportunities for spear fishing! Game fish such as cobia, grouper and snapper can be found on our sites year round! Grouper can be found on our offshore sites in abundance, and our dive site at Angel`s Ledge is especially known for it`s high yields of grouper, and it is one of our favorite specialty trips.

Also, we also offer a fine selection of AB Biller guns and spear fishing accessories in our dive shop. If you are a novice, be sure to ask about our spear fishing specialty class.

Let me start out with brief background. Trip was to take my 2 sons (19 &15) for their first dive experience to Myrtle Bch. Plus my friend and his 17 yr old daughter were doing DSD (Discovery Scuba Dive). I was going for my AOW and my 15 yr old would go for his OW.

I live in MI and my sons live in NC. I did almost all of my leg work via email with Jeanne and she was fantastic! Jeanne got me all set up, organized on what to do, and made a great deal. Ordered books and DVD for my 15 yr old who did the entire book work ahead of getting there. (Definitely do this as it saves time) The instructor Chris Price was awesome. He reviewed all the book work, graded the quizzes, and made sure everyone was ok to take the final. (3 hrs total but everyone was prepared so we moved quickly)

The pool work with Chris was great. He made everyone comfortable with the gear and being in the water. He took time to make sure everyone could complete the require disciplines. If someone was not set, he repeated the requirement. The dives went very well and again, the dive masters and instructors made sure everyone was safe and had a good time.

My instructor was very meticulous about hitting my disciplines. He was not allowing any room for error on my AOW. I could say one thing about Russ, he was 100% + by the book and safety. Made me feel very confident about what I was doing.

Now the only two negatives were the boat and the dive shop was a bit unorganized.

The boat was the second in their fleet and it rode high in the water. The jump in was about 5', which for any first time person would be a bit scary. (my son did great with it). Getting out was a challenge again due to height. The crew made sure everyone adhered to the pre-dive instructions for how to exit.

As for the shop, it needed a bit of organization. The counter was cluttered, boxes of new items were open but not put away, very limited amount of diving gear. Class room was a bit messy. The pool on sight was great. Clean and well maintained. It may seem a bit picky to find little things to complain about, but it will always be the little things that can give you a good or bad impression. However, I wasn’t there for the dive shop and was ok with the disorganization.

The wonderful thing of the experience was how great everyone treated the customers. Every person that was involved truly cared about the safety of everyone on the boat and dives to make sure it was a positive experience. At the dock everything was well organized. You were clear on what to do and when to do it. If you want to experience a professional operation, please go to Coastal Scuba. You will have fun and know you are in good hands
